CWO "Sac" McLaren  (retired) On December 25th 2001, the Line Family lost one of our Greatest Leaders CWO McLaren lost his battle to cancer and passed away on Christmas Day.    The Line Trade has lost one of its most senior linemen and I have lost one of my mentors and a close personal friend.   Whether or not you agreed, or disagreed, with the Chief’s methods, or his rough demeanor, he was first and foremost a “ Lineman”!!!  Sac loved many aspects of military life, but as a soldier his two greatest loves were the Line Trade and the Airborne Regiment.  I will always remember Sac as the Ops O of 1 Line Tp. I spent seven years in 1 Line Tp in the eighties and when I wasn’t on the road, the majority of my time in Kingston, was spent in the Chief’s office with my heals together.  We had many long talks in that office, however, I don’t recall saying much more than, yes sir, or the occasional but, but, but!   One thing was for sure, the Chief could give you a blast, but he protected you with a vengeance, when anyone other than a Lineman, took you to task.   With CWO McLaren you knew when you messed up, because he told you.   You also knew when you were doing well, because he would praise you.   He knew every soldier in 1 Line Tp by name, where they were from, which crew you were in, who the Project NCO and 2IC were and where your crew was at all times.   He would visit the troops on projects anywhere from, Alert to NFLD to the Golan Heights.   During his many visits he would insist on going to supper at least once, with the crews on the road and took the time to talk to each and every member of the project crew.   In the eighties it didn’t matter who you talked to from the C&E Branch, or Officers and/or Base/Wing or Station CO’s or CWO’s, they all knew who the Ops O of 1 Line Tp was and that was, “CWO Sac McLaren”.   CWO McLaren was a true leader, soldier and a proud and respected member of the Line trade.   He will be forever missed by his family, friends and fellow Linemen.

Cpl Mike Moore Mike joined the forces at the Recruiting center in Sydney, NS on 26 Sept 1989.  He was posted to CFB Shilo Battle School RCA 15 Dec 1989, then posted to CFB Gagetown April 1990 to Sept 1994.  He remustered to Lineman and attended QL –3 LMN training Sept 1994 to Dec 1994.  He was then posted to 1 CDN DIV HQ & SIG REGT, CFB Kingston.  During this time he also did a tour of the Golan Heights.  He was posted to 1 Line Troop 06 Aug 1997.  Cpl Mike Moore was posted to CFB Kingston from Sept 1994 to Nov 2000. Mike, his brother Mark, and a close friend Cpl Paul Grace were out on Lake Ontario duck hunting. They we're caught in a storm while hunting and their boat sank. The accident was tragic and sad to all of Mike’s friends and especially his family.  He will be remembered well by his fellow soldiers and Linemen.
